LIBERTY – Clay is among 20 counties that have joined the Local Government Checkbook, which makes county spending data available online to everyone. The program is designed to make government spending more efficient and transparent at all levels by being available for the public to search, based on information from the Missouri Treasurer’s Office.

New water fee draws questions at city meeting

EXCELSIOR SPRINGS – Are residents paying more than needed for water to subsidize other city operations? And if the city collects more than needed, should water bills decline? Councilman Andrew Kowalski raised those issues Monday during the City Council meeting. The city transferred $100,000 from water receipts to support general city operations.
