Family Connections comes to Excelsior Springs

With summer fast approaching, it can be difficult to come up with ideas for spending quality time with family. To help with this, Excelsior Springs Substance Abuse-Free Environments has joined forces with the Excelsior Springs Community Center, Synergy Services and the Excelsior Springs Hospital to present “Family Connections”.

Rogers, James claim district titles

Kinley Rogers is eying another chance to represent Excelsior Springs in state track and field competition. Rogers will compete at the Class 4 Sectional 4 meet Saturday at William Chrisman High School in Independence.

Schmidt, Biermann qualify for Class 4 state tournament

Two Excelsior Springs golfers represented their high school at state competition this week. Senior Jacob Schmidt and junior Landon Biermann played in the Class 4 state boys tournament, held Monday and Tuesday at Dalhousie Golf Club in Cape Girardeau.

Oak Grove ended Excelsior Springs’ latest winning streak Monday in varsity girls soccer – and Excelsior Springs’ season. The Tigers fell to Oak Grove at Boonville in Class 2 District 6 Tournament play.

RALPH “SKIP” HOCKMAN, JR.

Ralph Saum Hockman Jr., known to most as “Skip,” was born June 3, 1948, in Bethesda, Md., to Winifred Kitty Skeates Hockman and Ralph Saum Hockman Sr. Skip died peacefully after a 22-month battle with glioblastoma cancer on April 11, 2024, surrounded by his wife and children. He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Karen Hockman; and children, Jestin Keel (David Jr.), Edythe Logston (Caleb), Jonathan Hockman (Rosangela) and Emily Magruder (Bobby). He also was blessed with many grandchildren: David Keel III, Jonathan Keel, Joshua Keel (Hailey), Daniel Keel (Becka) and Audrey Keel; Cadie Logston, Alayna Logston, William Logston and Mathew Logston; Lia Hockman and Penelope Hockman; Kourtney Arnold, Andrew Magruder, Haydyn Campbell and Bobbianne Magruder.

Excelsior Springs varsity baseball coach Aaron Holst and his Tigers were eying a third straight district title at press time. The Tigers, who won back-to-back Class 4 District 15 titles in 2022 and 2023, were set to face Oak Grove for the Class 4 District 13 title Thursday at Excelsior Springs.
