Kinley Rogers is eying another chance to represent Excelsior Springs in state track and field competition. Rogers will compete at the Class 4 Sectional 4 meet Saturday at William Chrisman High School in Independence. If she’s a top-four finisher, she’ll qualify for the state meet, slated for May 23-24 at Jefferson City. She qualified for state in 2023 in the javelin, finishing 12th. This season, Rogers has the chance to qualify for state in three girls events – the shot put, javelin and discus. She qualified for sectionals in those events with topfour finishes at Class 4 District 8 competition May 11 at Liberty, wining the shot put, and taking second in the javelin and third in the discus. Rogers was one of two district champions for Excelsior Springs. On the boys side, Joseph James won the 110-meter high hurdles in 15.34 seconds – his best time this season.
