The Excelsior Standard, May 8, 2026 Katherine “Kathie” Duncan, a beloved wife, mother, nana, sister and friend, peacefully departed this life on May 1, 2026, surrounded by the love and warmth of her family. She was 77.
The Excelsior Standard, May 8, 2026 Nathan “Nate” Lowell Johnson, 82, of Excelsior Springs died April 23, 2026, at his home. Nate was born March 4, 1944, in Excelsior Springs to Isabel and Leonard Johnson.
Odessa got Excelsior Springs again in varsity boys tennis. Less than two weeks after falling to the Bulldogs 6-3 at Excelsior Springs, the Tigers lost to Odessa 5-0 Monday in the dual, or “team,” portion of the Class 1 District 4 Tournament.
Drive-thru pickup service will now be allowed at marijuana dispensaries in Excelsior Springs following council approval to lift the restriction. The measure returns after being tabled in March, when council members paused the decision to gather additional information and hear public concerns about accessibility and community health impacts.
Fresh color returned to downtown Excelsior Springs as volunteers planted red, white and blue flowers across dozens of planters throughout the district. The effort is part of the Downtown Excelsior Partnership’s (DEP) annual planter initiative, which places a total of 36 flower boxes throughout the district each season.
