Accident claims life of Excelsior resident

A two-vehicle collision resulted in the death of an Excelsior Springs man. According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, at 5:38 p.m. June 29, Randy D. Owens, 56, of Excelsior Springs was traveling eastbound on Missouri Highway 10 in Wood Heights and began to slow his 2001 Chevrolet S10 at the intersection of Highway 10 and Route M. Michele LeMatty, 46, of Richmond was driving her 2008 Buick Enclave behind Owens and struck the rear of his truck, causing it to overturn. Owens was pronounced dead at the scene by Scott Williams, Ray County paramedic. Owens wasn’t wearing a seat belt, according to the Highway Patrol. LeMatty was wearing her seat belt and her vehicle sustained moderate damage. Both vehicles were towed from the scene by R&L Shoemaker Tow.
