Company to inspect, clean three Excelsior Springs wells

EXCELSIOR SPRINGS – The City Council approved Layne Christensen Co.’s $89,643 bid to inspect and clean three wells. City documents identified the Kansas City, Kansas, company as one of two companies to bid on the project. Brotcke Well and Pump Co. Inc. of Fenton submitted a $122,286 bid. Public Works Director Chad Birdsong stated in a June 18 memo to city leaders that Layne’s bid came to $23,081 per well, plus another $6,800 per well “if a second acid treatment is needed.” The actual cost “may be lower than that,” Birdsong told city leaders. In addressing the council June 21, Birdsong emphasized the bid covers pump and motor inspection, and cleaning costs only. Well service companies usually “will come back and find something that needs to be addressed on either the ball or the loop parts of the pump, or if the motors need to be rewound,” he said.
