Community participates in regional art program placing giant hearts around metro area

EXCELSIOR SPRINGS – The city is included in the metrowide Parade of Hearts: A Heartland Celebration.
Excelsior Springs Mayor Sharon Powell said she participated in the unveiling of the Excelsior Springs heart, one of 154 hearts, all about 5 feet tall by 5 feet wide, and made by 123 community artists. She said the unveiling took place at Hale Arena at the American Royal.
The Parade of Hearts is a public arts experience, support information states.
“Original artwork based around the historical and iconic KC Heart will be placed throughout the Kansas City region as an example of unification and to make our community stronger,” the information states.
The heart is expected to draw tourists to Excelsior Springs and 29 other participating communities.
