Prosecutor receives missing funds report for city of Homestead

RICHMOND – Following a records review that revealed missing public money in Homestead, Missouri Auditor Nicole Galloway suggested a criminal investigation against former City Clerk Marla Berndt might be considered. Galloway offered documented evidence to ease the way for prosecution. Homestead city officials said they had cooperated with the audit and would continue to cooperate with any investigation. To date, Ray County Prosecutor Camille Johnston has not filed charges. She said, in the roughly three months since this newspaper had written an article about the allegations, she had received nothing from Galloway. “I haven’t heard anything from her about that,” Johnston said. “I think I saw (the) article.
