EXCELSIOR SPRINGS – City staff installed an eco-conscious sculpture at Century Park, Mayor Sharon Powell told city leaders during a March 18 work session at the Hall of Waters.

A large depiction of a flower, the piece is crafted “completely of recycled playground equipment,” Powell said.

“We didn’t spend any water money to make it,” she cracked, drawing chuckles, “if anybody asks.”

Powell credited Parks and Recreation Director Nate Williams and Public Works Director Chad Birdsong with bringing the sculpture to fruition.

“They’ve done some upgrading of the playground equipment ever since Nate took over, and all these pieces of metal have just been laying around,” she said. “So Chad said, ‘I think we can make a sculpture out of that.’”

The piece is “really cool,” Powell said.
