Community health engagement and outreach were the topics of discussion at a recent Substance Abuse Free Environments (SAFE) meeting.University of Missouri Extension Community Health Field Specialist Tracy Graybill shared information with attendees on promoting community health.“Community health can be defined as the environmental, social and economic resources to sustain emotional and physical well-being among people in ways that advance their aspirations and satisfy their needs in their unique environment,” said Graybill. “Social determinants of health play a role in this.”The social determinants of health discussed encompass a wide range of factors.Food and nutrition are linked to issues such as hunger, access to healthy food options, food insecurity and the availability of food assistance programs, according to Graybill.
