Orrick Board of Education amends 2023-2024 calendar

Orrick Board of Education approved a school calendar amendment which will effect the remainder of the school year. During its February meeting, the board added the following Monday’s to the remainder of the school year: *April 8 *April 15 *April 22 *April 29 *May 6 *May 6 *May 13 *May 20 The last day of school will remain as scheduled, May 22.

Liberty Hospital issues alert after data breach detected

Liberty Hospital is encouraging individuals whose personal information is in its computer systems to be on alert for potential fraud and identity theft crimes. Through Dobies Health Marketing, the hospital recently issued a press release stating it was “providing notice of an event that may affect the privacy of certain individuals’ information.” That event occurred in December 2023, when questionable activity involving the hospital’s computer network was detected, prompting the hospital to temporarily power down its systems, notify law enforcement and have the activity investigated, the release stated.

The Excelsior Springs Police Department reported the following arrests handled recently by the department. Friday, January 19 At 9:46 a.m., Joshua Dawson, 30, was arrested for tampering with motor vehicle – 1st degree.

Tax abatement home repairs approved

The Excelsior Springs City Council approved multiple tax abatement applications for local properties during a recent meeting. The purpose of the Chapter 353 tax abatement program is to provide the owners of specific parcels an incentive to rehabilitate their properties to remove any blighting influences, encourage reinvestment, encourage preservation as appropriate, increase home ownership and improve the value and appearance of neighborhoods.

ESPD welcomes Officer Bierle

The Excelsior Springs Police Department (ESPD) has welcomed a new officer, a recent graduate of the Kansas City Regional Academy (KCRA). Deven Bierle, 23, will be trained by Field Training Officer Miles Reed beginning Feb.

Kearney Newspaper Club learns about field

Richmond News and Excelsior Springs Standard reporter Miranda Jamison presented a newspaper interview guide at Hawthorne Elementary of Kearney last week. The elementary school hosts an after-school newspaper club comprised of third through fifth-grade students who meet weekly.
