Agnes Mullikin

Agnes Marie (Jones) Mullikin, 89, of Excelsior Springs (Wood Heights) passed away Oct. 19, 2024, peacefully in her sleep. Agnes was born Sept. 18, 1935, in Glenolden, Pa., to Clarence and Mildred Jones. She graduated in 1953 from Glen-Nor High School and went on to work for Bell Telephone in Philadelphia before she met and married Donnie Mullikin on Nov. 27, 1954. She was a devoted wife and mother who raised five children.

Agnes loved to cook and bake, and enjoyed doing yardwork and potting and planting flowers in her flower beds. And she loved her Kansas City Chiefs. She was always so excited for game day.

She also loved having her children and grandchildren over for Sunday dinners over the years. She always had something delicious prepared and loved trying new recipes as well. Easy spaghetti was a family favorite.

Birthdays and holidays were always special, especially Christmas. She always put on a big spread of baked goods and food for us as kids. We always had a homemade birthday cake as well.

Anyone that came into contact with her loved and adored her. She was the kindest, most caring and most loving person, and was such a giver.

She loved her children and grandchildren, and she especially loved being a grandmother. She shared a special bond with some. Words cannot express how deeply she will be missed.

She was the matriarch, the glue, the rock and center of our family. We are so blessed to have had you for 89 years. We are so thankful for her team of doctors that treated her throughout her cancer journey, and her heart and kidney journeys.

I would like to give a special appreciation and thank you to Amanda and Olivia, her granddaughters, who stepped up to help get her to her chemo treatments and many doctor’s appointments, as well as many other things her life required. If it were not for the both of you with your flexible schedules, I am not sure how we would have managed. I know she was so grateful to have spent the time she did with you this last year. We as a family are forever grateful.

She is survived by her five children: Mike, Altus, Okla.; Laura, Emporia, Kan.; Sharon and husband Mike Griffin, Excelsior Springs; Matt and wife Debbie, Excelsior Springs; and Lenore, Kansas City. Other survivors include five grandchildren, Stacey (Anthony), Jason (Beckie), Angela, Amanda (Sam) and Olivia; and nine great-grandchildren, Kyree, Mason, Kaleb, Mackenzie, Jayden, Brayden, Liliana, Maverick and Max.

Agnes was preceded in death by Donnie, her husband of 63 years; her parents, Clarence and Mildred; her siblings, Mildred, Sonny, Billy, Jeannie and Alan; a son-in-law, David; and a granddaughter, Tiffany.

Visitation was scheduled for 5-6:30 p.m., Thursday, Oct. 24, at Bross & Spidle Funeral Home, Excelsior Springs. The funeral service will be at 1 p.m. Friday, Oct. 25, also at the funeral home, with burial at Hillcrest Cemetery, Excelsior Springs.
