Carol Smedlund

Carol Smedlund, 88, of Excelsior Springs passed away June 3, 2023, at Excelsior Springs after her battle with cancer. Funeral services will be held at noon Saturday, June 10, at St. Luke’s Episcopal Church, 404 Regent St., Excelsior Springs. Visitation will be held 10 a.m.-noon before the funeral services. Interment of the ashes in the church garden will immediately follow the services.

Carol was born on March 27, 1935, in Almond, Wis. She worked in the collection department of Russell Stover Candies and retired from Commerce Bank.

She was a prior secretary at the Elks Lodge and volunteered at the Excelsior Springs Chamber of Commerce. She enjoyed knitting and crocheting and spending time with family and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband, James Smedlund; and daughter-in-law, Guyla Smedlund.

Survivors include her children, Jon Smedlund, Bashor, Kan.; Jean (Ted) Pasieniuk, Orrick; Jeffrey (Debi) Smedlund, Omaha, Neb.; Jay (Maureen) Smedlund, Plattsmouth, Neb.; and Jolene (Jim) Loftin, Excelsior Springs. Other survivors include her brother-in-law, William (Betty) Smedlund, Kimberly, Wis.; nine grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and her nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the St. Luke’s Church memorial garden.
