July 2, 1956-Feb. 19, 2025 Don was born July 2, 1956, to Donna Larson Covert and Vernard Covert in Ottawa, Iowa.

He lived most of his life in Excelsior Springs.

On May 3, 1975, he married Mary Teegarden; and they were to celebrate 50 years together this year. They were blessed with one son, Vernard Covert, who became Don’s best friend.

Most of his work career, he was an excellent machinist for the Jesse James Machine Shop. After becoming disabled, he lived a quiet life with his wife and went to visit his son on his farm.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Vernard and Donna Covert ; and two brothers, Terry and Perry Ray Covert.

He is survived by his wife, Mary Covert; son, Vernard Covert; brothers, Jay Covert, Leland Covert and Richard Covert, and their wives; many nieces and nephews, who loved their Uncle Stumpy; and his wife’s family, who loved him just as much.

He was a good man and will be greatly missed. A private celebration of life will be held at a later date.
