Gary Franklin Hill, 80, of Excelsior Springs, passed away Thursday August 5, 2021.  He passed peacefully at home with family after a long battle with Parkinson’s Disease.

Gary was born on February 17, 1941, in Rayville, Missouri, to Vestor and Beulah (Lawrence) Hill. He was united in Marriage to Anita McGinnis on May 15, 1959; Anita proceeded him in death on May 12, 2021.

Survivors include: three daughters: Debbie Myers, Patti Myers, and Nancy Palmer (Paul); son, Frank Hill; 2 granddaughters, Heather Cowan (Jeremy) and Amanda Emry (Brandon); 7 great-grandchildren: Jaxon Emry, Avery Palmer, Emerson Defries, Westin Cowan, Lawson Cowan, Charleigh Emry, and Jameson Emry; and brother, David Hill (Wanda).

He was proceeded in death by his parents, siblings; Jerry Hill, Diane Stolz, Sonny Hill, and Nancy Hill in infancy.

Gary retired from General Motors after 30 years and became a man of many trades afterwards; he worked as a parts driver, drove an ice truck, drove a school bus and later became a realtor all while working the family farm.

Gary enjoyed caring for the family farm, he especially enjoyed farming cattle, he was also an avid fisherman, gardener and often enjoyed old western movies.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests making a donation, in Gary’s name, to either The Parkinson’s Foundation or The Special Olympics.  They can be left at or mailed to Thurman Funeral Home, 507 East Main Street-P.O. Box 190, Richmond, MO 64085.
