Jesse D. Richmond III, 63, of Spickard passed away Dec. 31, 2020.

Jesse was born Dec. 9, 1957, in Fort Wayne, Indiana, to Jesse Edward Richmond Jr. and Brenda Richmond (Ross). On Sept. 25, 1976, he was united in marriage to Melody Berfield in Manito, Illinois. After his wife’s passing in October of 2016, he married Judi Hein on May 26, 2018.

Jesse went to work as a journeyman operator and was a member of INTER Electrical Union Local 53. In the early 1980s, he joined the U.S. Army for a short period. After moving his family to the Kansas City area, he joined the Excelsior Springs Fire Department as a firefighter and first responder.

Later, he moved his family to Spickard, where he worked for the Grundy County Road and Bridge Department until he retired in 2016. He also served as mayor of Spickard for many years. He was a member of the Spickard Special Road District. At the time of his death, he was a member of the Spickard R-2 School District Board of Directors. Jesse was an EMT/firefighter with Spickard Volunteer Fire and Rescue. He also was a member, decan and bus driver at Coon Creek Baptist Church in Trenton.

Survivors include his wife, Judi, of the home; daughter, Rhiannon (Mike) Hieronymus, Excelsior Springs; son, Jesse D. Richmond IV; parents, Jesse and Brenda Richmond Jr. of Yuma, Arizona; stepdaughter, Libby (Matt) Hall of Trenton; stepson, Jeromy (Jessica Summers) Romesburg of Lathrop.

Other survivors include five nieces, three nephews and many friends; and his sisters, Jonine (Mike) Jaycox of Spickard, Jackie (Ross) of Johnson Ozarks and Julie (Mike Hollenbeck) Burgard of Table Grove, Illinois. He leaves behind eight grandchildren: Ashley Snow (Excelsior Springs); Nathaniel and Madison Wilhite (Richmond); Shelby Reffitti (Excelsior Springs); and Alyssa, Jayden, Lily and Brooklynn (Trenton).

He was preceded in death by his grandparents and his oldest grandson, Austin Richmond.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Ashley Snow to help with final expenses.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 23, at Coon Creek Union Baptist Church in Trenton. Slater Neal Funeral Home is in charge of the services.
