Joy Lynn Sample, 63, of Grandview passed away on Friday, April 2, 2021, at her home, surrounded by her loving family.

Joy was born on March 3, 1958, in Kansas City to James R. Ramey and Velma M. (Bradshaw) Ramey. Joy lived her entire life in the Kansas City area.

She was united in marriage to David Sample on June 17, 1977.

Joy enjoyed life. Among her many interests, she especially loved cooking, watching and rooting for the Chiefs. She also loved working at Arrowhead Stadium.

Joy liked to barbeque and was a member of The Kanas City Barbeque Society. She also had a great passion for felines and had cats close by to enjoy and love.

Joy was proceeded in death by her parents; James and Velma Ramey; brother, Darrell Walker; and a sister, Patricia Cloud.

Joy is survived by her husband of 43 years, David Sample of the home; a son, Brandon Sample of Orrick; and a sister, Mary Lou Terril of Shawnee, Kansas. The family will greet friends from 1 to 2 p.m. Satur

The family will greet friends from 1 to 2 p.m. Saturday, April 10, at Gowing Funeral Home in Orrick.

Funeral services for Joy will immediately follow at 2 p.m. at the funeral home, with Mr. Bryan Thompson officiating. Joy will be cremated following the services.

Masks are required to be worn to attend the visitation and service.
