Kenneth “Wayne” Pugh, 74, of Hardin died Monday, May 3, 2021, at his home.

Wayne was born on Jan. 8, 1947, in Stet, the son of Kenneth Atch and Ethel (Templeton) Pugh. He was united in marriage to Carolyn Rose Oyler of Hardin on June 7, 1968. She preceded him in death on Dec. 8, 2020.

Survivors include: a son, Kevin Wayne (April) Pugh of Hardin; a daughter, Kyla Jean Pugh of Higginsville; three grandsons, Korbin Wayne Pugh, Kameron Walker Pugh and Kolt Dilyn Pugh; three brothers-in-law, Donald Wayne (Sandy) Oyler of Braymer, David Lee (Sheila) Oyler of Hardin and James Michael (Ella) Oyler of Lee’s Summit; and four sisters-in-law, Faye Pugh of Richmond, Jeanne Anne (Steve) Pulliam of Richmond, Janet Louise (Kenny) McNelly of Hardin and Catherine Joan (Ronald) Sadler of Liberty. Several nieces and nephews also survive.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; brother, Samuel W. Pugh; and brother-in-law, Richard Alan “Rick” Oyler.

Wayne was reared and educated in Stet. Following high school, Wayne was drafted into the U.S. Army during Vietnam, where he proudly served his country. His work history included working for Green Quarries, Ray-Carroll Co-Op in Hardin and as a truck driver for several companies. He retired as a truck driver for FedEx in 2012.

Wayne enjoyed spending time with his grandsons and family and going to the lake. He liked watching trains and NASCAR. He also enjoyed driving his golf cart around town with his wife, Kyla, and the boys.

The family suggests memorial contributions be made to the Hardin Community Youth Group c/o Hardin First Baptist Church, New Hope Cemetery or the Hardin Fire Protection District. They can be left at or mailed to Thurman Funeral Home; 507 E. Main St.-P.O. Box 190; Richmond, MO 64085.

Memorial graveside services were held at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, May 12, at New Hope Cemetery north of Hardin. Thurman Funeral Home in Richmond was in charge of the arrangements.
