Margaret Ellen (Kliewer) Broadhurst, 82, took her nursing skills to Heaven on April 27, 2025.

She was born Dec. 17, 1942, in Fairview, Okla., to Fritz and Bertha Kliewer.

In 1962, she graduated from the Enid, Okla., Hospital School of Nursing, then practiced clinical nursing for 20 years and hospital quality assurance and risk management for 32 years. She also earned a bachelor’s degree, then retired from nursing in 2014.

On Aug. 24, 1963, she married Carl Broadhurst of Excelsior Springs. She traveled with him to his military assignments in Oklahoma, Missouri, Indiana, Washington, Hawaii, New Jersey, Florida and North Carolina. For 30 years, she performed flawlessly one of the toughest jobs there is: Army wife.

In Hawaii, she earned her private pilot’s certificate and flew between the islands. She traveled to Israel, Greece, the Republic of Turkey, the Republic of South Korea, Macau, China and Kenya.

She was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Frederick and Bertha (Corbly) Kliewer of Fairview.

She is survived by her husband; daughters, Eileen (and husband Ray) and Sandra (and husband Tim, and their children Bethany, Zachary and Hannah); and brother, Herb (and wife Mary).

She will be interred in Burns (Kan.) Cemetery, the resting place of her mother’s great-grandparents.

In lieu of flowers, memorials have been established with Snyder Memorial Baptist Church in Fayetteville, N.C.; and Immanuel Baptist Church in Wichita, Kan.
