Michael “Mickey” Lambert Coats, 68, of Warsaw passed away Wednesday, June 17, 2026, at his home in Bent Tree Harbor, Warsaw. He was born Aug. 20, 1957, in Excelsior Springs, the son of Robert and Helen (Turk) Coats. On June 27, 1998, he married Theresa Twamley in Independence. Mickey was a 1975 graduate of Excelsior Springs High School. In 1976, he started working for the Ford Motor Co., retiring in 2006 after 30 years of service.
Mickey loved sports, especially baseball and football. He was a fan of both the Royals and the Chiefs.
He also was an avid watcher of TV game shows. His favorites were “The Price Is Right” and “Wheel of Fortune.”
His younger years after high school were consumed with playing in softball leagues and tournaments in and around Excelsior Springs and Orrick. He was a true sportsman.
He loved music, hunting, fishing, four-wheeling, foraging for morel mushrooms and the great outdoors. In his retirement years, he pursued all of those interests with his wife Theresa. Along with their love for cats and their home in the woods, they enjoyed many years together of being content.
All who knew him called him friend. Survivors include his wife Theresa of the home; brother, Larry Coats, and wife Debbie of Kansas City; and sister, Julie Douglas, and husband Mike of Holt.
He was preceded in death by his parents, the aforementioned Robert and Helen (Turk) Coats.
The funeral service was held at noon Saturday, June 20, at the Reser Funeral Home, with Rev. Jim Downing officiating. Visitation was held one hour prior to the funeral.
