Wanda May (Pointer) Mills, 85, of Excelsior Springs passed away peacefully in her sleep Sunday, Oct. 27, 2024, at Aspire Senior Living. Wanda was born Dec. 3, 1938, in Ray County to Catherine and Orville Pointer. She graduated in 1957 from Excelsior Springs High School. While driving home one night from work, she had the misfortune of having a flat tire. A young man named Billy Gene Mills stopped and changed it for her.

The rest is history. They were married on Aug. 23, 1957.

Wanda and Bill had one daughter, Laura Mae, born April 9, 1960.

Wanda worked as the office manager for Excelsior Printing and Stationary for several years.

She never met a stranger. She could talk to anyone about anything.

She loved to bowl and play cards, and she loved her Kansas City Chiefs. Her friends and family were important to her.

Christmas Eve was her holiday to shine. Christmas Eve at her house was like no other.

Wanda was preceded in death by her husband Bill; parents, Catherine and Orville; and brothers, Donald and Charles.

Survivors include her daughter, Laura (John) Nimmo; sister-in-law, Betty Mills; nieces and nephews; great-nieces and nephews; great-great-nieces and nephews; many friends; and grand dogs.

Visitation will be held 5-6:30 p.m. Friday, Nov. 1, at Bross and Spidle Funeral Home, Excelsior Springs, with the funeral services at 10 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 2, at Union Baptist Church in Orrick.

Burial will be at Crown Hill Cemetery, Excelsior Springs.
