Albertson sees ‘great competition’ in track program

Excelsior Springs track coach Jonah Albertson has found reasons to be optimistic about the varsity boys and girls seasons, based on what he has seen during the preseason. One reason is the turnout. At press time, there were a combined 100 high schoolers out for track. Albertson also likes the way his Tigers are preparing for the season, which will begin Friday with the Liberty Invitational. “We are already seeing great competition during practice from our younger athletes, which will continue to help us improve and be in our best shape to peak in … May, when the postseason begins,” he said. In addition, Albertson expects his competitive athletes to be willing to try new events and be coachable throughout the spring. “We will be like a big family, cheering each other on and celebrating our personal records throughout the spring,” he said.
