ES rebounds from SJC loss, outscores Ray South 34-27
RAYTOWN – On Oct. 14, the Tigers lit up the scoreboard in varsity 11-man football against Raytown South, just as they had done Oct. 7 on the road against St. Joseph Central.
But the final result was different this time.
Coming off a 53-47 loss to Central, Excelsior Springs outlasted Raytown South, posting a 34-27 road victory. The Greater Kansas City Suburban Conference-Blue Division win put the Tigers at 2-6 overall and 2-3 in the division entering Friday’s regular-season finale with visiting Ruskin of Kansas City.
Excelsior Springs took the opening lead against Ray South, driving 76 yards in 16 plays. Senior quarterback Chance Moreland’s 1-yard TD run with 3 minutes, 41 seconds left in the first quarter capped the drive. The extra-point kick attempt was no good.
