Area players back on ball fields

With youth sports returning to the Kansas City area, several Excelsior Springs athletes have started competing again. Kansas City area baseball and softball organizations are getting back to action on both sides of the state line, as cities, counties and states reopen following stay-at-home orders and social distancing because of the coronavirus pandemic. Many teams began their offseason training by working out once a week in indoor facilities in January and continued until they could train outside in early to mid-March. It was then that the pandemic started canceling activities. “We were able to do virtual practices when the restrictions were placed,” Chris Schreier, who coaches the 12-and-under, Excelsior Springs-based Cyclones softball team, said. “The day we were allowed to start began with small groups, and as restrictions lessened, we started full team practices back up.” Organizations have taken the responsibility of setting guidelines for keeping athletes and spectators…
