Baseballers continue moving toward 20-win goal
Excelsior Springs continues closing in on another 20-win season in varsity baseball.The boys were 13-8 and had won three straight and six of seven entering Thursday’s road meeting with Belton. That stretch included a 2-1 showing in last week’s Oak Park Tournament and a 7-6 win Monday at Warrensburg in a tussle of teams nicknamed the Tigers.Excelsior Springs opened tournament play with a 10-8 loss to Fort Osage, an Independence-based school. Landon Marcum, a first-year high schooler, powered the ballclub in the April 15 defeat by going 3-for-3, including a double, with two RBIs. Marcum also scored two runs.Other contributors included Spence Gibbs and Kota Triplett. Gibbs went 2-for-3, with an RBI and a run scored.
