Baseballers end regular season at .500
EXCELSIOR SPRINGS – The hometown varsity baseballers broke even for the regular season in varsity baseball.
And then, they topped .500 in the postseason.
Excelsior Springs finished regularseason play 18-18 after going 1-2 last week. The week opened May 9 with Excelsior Springs splitting a doubleheader with Sedalia Smith-Cotton. Smith-Cotton took the first game 13-10. The hometown boys won the nightcap 16-6 in five innings.
Smith-Cotton struck early in game one against junior starting pitcher Mason Danner. After getting the first batter out on strikes, Danner yielded a single to center field, followed by a two-run home run to right-center field.
The visitors got to Danner again in the fourth with another homer, this time a three-run dinger. Smith-Cotton scored five more runs in the fifth en route to the win.
