Bats go quiet during Excelsior Springs softballers’ losing skid

EXCELSIOR SPRINGS – The explosion of hits and runs the Tigers enjoyed early in the varsity softball season has quieted. Runs have been difficult to come by during Excelsior Springs’ eight-game losing streak. Those losses were by scores of 14-1 to Eureka , 8-4 to Monett, 15-0 to Ozark, 4-1 to Carthage, 8-0 to Nina, 4-1 to Warrensburg, and 8-0 and 10-0 to Fort Osage and Oak Grove, respectively. Before playing in Ozark’s Fall Festival Sept. 10 and 11, the Tigers were batting .336 as a team and averaging 7.1 runs per game. Since then, they have batted just .167 and averaged less than one run per game. Senior Aracely Lopez has led the Tigers in hitting with three hits in 10 at bats, including a double. Freshman Alyssa Dean has collected three hits in 11 at bats, including a double, with two RBIs.
