Orrick is facing another varsity 8-man football program with muscle this week, according to Bearcats coach Aaron Rodenberg.

The Bearcats (2-2) are slated to face Concordia (2-2) Friday at Orrick. To Rodenberg, the Orioles are reminiscent of Polo – a team Orrick nearly defeated in Week 2.

“They’re going to be big, they’re going to be physical,” Rodenberg said Sept. 18. “Just got to make sure we match the physicality, find the right gaps, come downhill and make some tackles.”

Sophomore Joey McElwee also expects a test from the Orioles, who are coming off a 34-8 thumping of Lincoln.

“Concordia are definitely known to be strong,” McElwee said.

McElwee and his fellow Bearcats are coming off a 48-12 loss to the Norborne Hardin-Central (NHC) co-op at Hardin-Central. McElwee provided one of Orrick’s two TD runs. Senior Gage Tebbe was credited with the first.

McElwee “was so stoked” to rush for the second touchdown, he said.

“I didn’t think I could make it,” McElwee said. “I thought about diving.”
