Biermann, Schmidt qualify for state

Excelsior Springs golf coach David Stalder got to see two of his Tigers qualify for state last week. On May 8, Landon Biermann and Jacob Schmidt advanced to the Class 3 state tournament by being among the top 14 individuals not on the two qualifying teams at the Class 3 District 4 Tournament at Shirkey Golf Course in Richmond. Biermann, a sophomore, shot an 81 (+10) for his 18-hole, par-71 round to place 13th. Schmidt, a junior, shot an 82 (+11) and finished 14th. “I am so proud of the way these boys played today,” Stalder said. “They knew they were going to be close to the cut, but still managed to keep their composure when the pressure was on and reach their goal of qualifying for state.” In other team results, senior Ryan Gluhm shot an 89 (+18) and sophomore Tayvion Kennedy shot a 107 (+36) to complete Excelsior Springs’ team score, 359.
