Landon Biermann was in position to be the individual winner at Excelsior Springs’ season-opening varsity boys golf competition.For much of the front nine holes of the Oak Grove Invitational, the senior led the pack. On the back nine, he fell behind Grain Valley’s Jake Gorden.Gorden, a sophomore, won the March 21 competition at Adams Pointe Golf Club in Blue Springs, finishing the 18hole tournament with a 73 (+1). Biermann was runner-up with a 78 (+6).Biermann was one of two Tigers to crack the top 20. Senior Tayvion Kennedy shot a 100 (+28) to finish in a tie for 20th.Biermann and Kennedy helped Excelsior Springs shoot 383 as a team.
