Biermann welcomes open week on schedule

Coach JD Biermann is happy for his Excelsior Springs varsity girls basketball team and himself to have this week off from competition.“It’ll be a good week of getting back to fundamentals – working on ballhandling, working on sharp passes, reviewing our offensive plays,” Biermann said Jan. 23 after the girls’ 69-20 loss to visiting Kearney. “I think we get a little confused sometimes when we see a lot of pressure, like Kearney put on us tonight. We tend to panic. And so, I think being able to review and just get back to the basics for a week will help us for this final stretch here.”As Biermann pointed out, the week also gives point guard Reece Ryan more time to recover from an ankle injury she suffered during the Lawson Invitational Tournament. Biermann expects the sophomore to be ready for the Tigers’ next game – a Feb. 2 road meeting with Greater Kansas City Suburban Conference-Blue Division opponent Smithville....
