Boys grapplers place third at Tiger Classic

Excelsior Springs came within 4.5 points of finishing second at its own boys wrestling tournament – and within 46.5 points of winning it. Led by three individual champions, Excelsior Springs tallied 143 points and placed third at the Tiger Classic. Kearney took the team championship at the Jan. 6 competition with 189.5 points and Hillsboro finished second with 147.5 points. Ryne Marcum, Kota Triplett and Lane Crowley were the Tigers’ three champions. Marcum, a junior, won the 132-pound championship with four wins by fall and a medical forfeit over senior teammate Micah Danner. Triplett went 4-0 to claim the 165 title. The junior won two matches by pin, one by major decision and his other match by decision. Crowley, a senior, went 3-0 to take the 215 championship. All his wins were by fall. The Tigers also produced two runnersup and a third place finisher. Danner placed second at 132, going 3-0. He won two matches by fall and the other by technical fall. A shoulder injury…
