Boys netters blanked by seasoned Huskers
Excelsior Springs ran into a seasoned opponent in varsity boys tennis on April 4, when the Tigers hosted perennial Class 1 power Lafayette County of Higginsville.
It was the Huskers’ sixth dual this season. By contrast, it was the Tigers’ season opener.
The seasoned Huskers drubbed Excelsior Springs 9-0.
“We played well at times in most of our matches tonight, but we have to focus on being more consistent with our serves,” Tigers coach Richie Marsh said.
In doubles results, senior Austin Collins and junior Theo Sturhmann battled before falling 8-6 in the No. 1 match, junior Grayson Grove and senior Colt Bowman fell 8-3 in the second spot, and junior Owen Peterson and first-year high schooler Alec Armstrong lost 8-0 in the No. 3 match.
In singles results, Collins dropped the No. 1 match 8-3. Grove dropped the No. 2 match 8-4. Sturhmann battled before dropping the No. 3 match 8-5. Bowman lost 8-2 in the fourth position. Peterson fell 8-1 in the fifth spot, and Armstrong lost 8-0 in…
