Burton takes 135 title at Steve Leslie Invitational
PLEASANT HILL – The Tigers produced one champion, one runner-up, one third-place finisher and one fourthplace finisher in their first girls wrestling tournament this season.
Junior Vada Burton pinned her way to the 135-pound title at the Steve Leslie Invitational Tournament, held Dec. 3 at Pleasant Hill High School. Burton opened with a win over Harrisonville’s Chloe Fitzgerald, followed by wins over Camdenton’s Elidia Weber, Pleasant Hill’s CheyAnn Johnson, Eldon’s Anmarie Dillon and Makenzie Brown of Prairie View, Kansas.
Senior Paige Barber picked up three wins by fall at 130 en route to the championship match. She opened with wins over William Chrisman’s Elena Nuckolls and Pleasant Hill’s Skylar Cyr. She then lost by pin to Melaina Beachner, but advanced to the bracket semifinals, where she defeated Camdenton’s Chelsea Campopiana before losing to Holden’s Charlie Gregg...
