Class 4 Tigers face Class 6 competition in Northland tourney

EXCESLIOR SPRINGS – The Tigers faced their share of larger schools when they played last week in the Northland Baseball Tournament. Excelsior Springs, a Class 4 program, took on four Class 6 schools in the varsity tournament, going 1-3, with a matchup with Fort Osage postponed until this week. The Tigers opened April 12 with a 9-2 road victory over Oak Park. Excelsior Springs took control with three runs in the fourth inning and three more in the fifth. They added a run in the sixth and two more in the seventh to finish their scoring. Sophomore Brendan Blackburn led Excelsior Springs offensively with two hits and three runs scored. Senior Jalen Soria drove in two runs, with sophomores Mason Danner, Brock Dusek and Blackburn driving in one run each. Freshman courtesy runner Micah Danner tallied three stolen bases.
