Coach sees ‘night-and-day difference’ in offseason finale

Excelsior Springs varsity 11-man football coach Jake Danneman saw a turnaround from his Tigers during their final week of offseason scrimmages.The Tigers “started off a little rough” and went from rough to rougher July 30, when they hosted Lawson, Oak Grove and Richmond, Danneman acknowledged. But he was impressed with their performance July 31 against visiting Lawson and Richmond (another school was scheduled to participate as well, but had to withdraw, Danneman said).“We didn’t turn that corner trying to get things better, and I think it kind of put a bad taste in our kids’ mouths,” Danneman said minutes after the final snap. “And then, we brought the kids in this morning and talked through some of the stuff on film, and we got a lot corrected.
