Coach sees progress in offense during NKC loss

Excelsior Springs made strides on offense during its 48-10 Sept. 12 road loss to North Kansas City, according to Tigers coach Jake Danneman.

“We had a couple nine-, 10-, 11-play drives,” Danneman said Monday. “We’re moving the chains and we’re doing stuff and we’re keeping that high-powered offense of Northtown off the field. So the offense had some success.”

One of Excelsior Springs’drives resulted in a 22-yard, first-quarter field goal by Gauge Facciuto. Another drive resulted in a fourth-quarter TD run by Nick Mubanga, followed by Facciuto’s extra-point kick.

“It was good to see him get in there and showcase what he can do,” Danneman said. “He’s a talented running back. We’re going to try to get him more on the field here soon.”

The Tigers’ schedule dictates more game reps for Mubanga, according to Danneman.

“He’s a good athlete, and you’ve seen the teams that we’re playing, week in and week out,” he said. “There’s athletes all over the field, so we’ve got to be able to match them.”
