Coach ties for fourth in 8-man victories with Orrick’s home win
With Orrick’s 60-30 Oct. 14 home win over North Shelby in varsity 8-man football, Bearcats coach Kirk Thacker achieved a milestone.
Only Thacker didn’t know it. Or rather, he didn’t know until social media and a text message pointed it out to him.
As a weekend post on the Missouri 8-Man Football Facebook page stated, the victory was Thacker’s 121st as an 8-man varsity head coach. That put him tied for fourth with Vernon Pike on the all-time list for Missouri 8-man coaches.
“I had no idea,” Thacker stated in an early Sunday morning text message.
Thacker called the achievement “a great honor” Monday on Orrick’s practice field. He also shared the credit for the honor.
“All of it goes to my players, who listen to me and play the games; … and to my Lord, who has given me the ability, because it is not (something done) on my own. … It is God-given,” Thacker said.
