Tigers end Odessa’s record-setting winning streak in football

ODESSA – On Oct. 16, the longest football winning streak in the state ended. And Excelsior Springs was the team that ended it. With their 36-20 road victory over undefeated Odessa, the Tigers halted the Bulldogs’ 31-game overall winning streak, including a 19-game Missouri River Valley Conference West Division winning streak. The last team to beat the Bulldogs had been Maryville on Nov. 17, 2018. The last MRVC West team to beat Odessa had been Harrisonville on Oct. 13, 2017. “We controlled the game with our time of possession,” Tigers coach Mark Faubion said. “We had the football for 36 minutes, compared to just 12 for them, and put them in a situation they had never been in – having to come back from behind.” The Tigers forced the Bulldogs to play catchup by jumping to a 22-6 halftime lead. They first scored on a 1-yard TD run by junior quarterback Chance Moreland with 57 seconds left in the first quarter. ...
