Dolt champion, Davis runner-up at state
COLUMBIA – Ayden Dolt went out a state champion.
The Excelsior Springs senior went 4-0 at the Class 2 state boys wrestling tournament, held Feb. 17-19 at Mizzou Arena in Columbia, to win the title at 152 pounds. He was one of two Excelsior Springs boys grapplers to finish in the top six and bring home a medal.
Dolt opened by pinning University City’s Cameron Martin in 23 seconds. He then pinned Blair Oaks’ Zach Rackers in 37 seconds to advance to the winner’s-bracket semifinals. Jefferson City Helias’ Wyatt Forck fell to Dolt in 1:21.
Dolt clinched his state title with a 9-1 major decision over Osage’s Ryan Schepers. It was his second consecutive state championship. He was the Class 2 145 champion in 2021.
Senior Landen Davis also wrestled for a title, but he finished as the runnerup for the second consecutive year, this time at 132. Davis placed second at 126 in 2021.
