Football season is approaching in Excelsior Springs – and not just for the high school and middle school teams. The Excelsior Springs Football Association (ESFA) is assembling five teams this fall for grades 2-6. The teams will continue playing in the West Central Youth Football League, starting with a jamboree for each grade level on Aug. 19 in Pleasant Hill. The regular season will begin Aug. 26. “Our goal for the 2023 season is to instill (a) good work ethic in (our) players and to prepare them for the next level,” said Anthony Circo, league president. As part of their preparation, the youngsters will run the same schemes the high school Tigers do. There are 111 players looking to learn or enhance their football skills to prepare them for their next level of competition. That total includes 17 players on the second-grade team.
