ES baseballers in driver’s seat for No. 1 district seed
The Excelsior Springs varsity baseball team appears to have the inside track for getting the top seed in the Class 4 District 13 Tournament.
The guys were 12-13 overall entering Thursday’s home meeting with Park Hill, a Class 6, Kansas City-based school. As of Wednesday, Excelsior Springs was the only school in its district with 10 wins.
“The (seeding) meeting’s on Saturday. … I like our chances,” coach Aaron Holst said.
As Holst pointed out Monday, Excelsior Springs also holds a head-tohead tiebreaker over the school with the next best record, Oak Grove. Excelsior Springs got that tiebreaker by thumping the Panthers 10-0 Monday. Play was stopped in the sixth inning because of the mercy rule.
Kaelan Bedford helped lead Excelsior Springs to victory, striking out nine in a two-hit complete game. The sophomore’s stat line also included one walk and one plunked batter.
“He was very efficient,” Holst said. ?...
