Coaches of the other district schools generally agreed Excelsior Springs deserved the top seed in part because of the ballclub’s strength of schedule, according to Holst. They agreed the school plays perhaps the most challenging schedule of any Missouri Class 4 program, he said. “I’ve always felt there’s a lot to be said for that,” Holst said. Other points in Excelsior Springs’ favor were its number of “good résumé wins” and total wins, Holst said.
