ES baseballers stage big inning, snap skid
EXCELSIOR SPRINGS – Sometimes, it takes just one big inning to end a losing streak.
The Tigers had just that April 19 against visiting Fort Osage to end a fourgame skid in varsity baseball with a 4-2 win.
The Indians picked up a run in the first inning off sophomore starter Brayden Lewis, but a four-run second inning was all the Tigers needed for the victory. Senior Kian Dollins reached base on a two-out walk, reached third on an errant pickoff throw and scored on junior Colson Moore’s single to center field. Moore scored, along with freshman Ryne Marcum, on a triple by junior Lucas Dillman, who later scored on a wild pitch.
It was the first of three victories in four games. The second came on April 23, when Truman and Oak Park visited Excelsior Springs for a triangular.
An offensive explosion, aided by a 30- mph wind, helped produce seven home runs in the games featuring the Tigers. Excelsior Springs benefitted from four of those home runs, with Dollins driving one over in each game, soph…
