ES bats explode in back-to-back routs
EXCELSIOR SPRINGS – The Tigers’ offense continued to roar last week in varsity baseball.
Excelsior Springs outscored its opponents 23-3 in two home games, getting a 12-2 non-conference win April 25 over Van Horn of Independence and an 11-1 Missouri River Valley Conference West Division win April 28 over Odessa.
Van Horn picked up a run on two hits in the top of the first inning to take the opening lead, but the Tigers used a five-run second to cruise to the win. Freshman Hunter Scoma and senior Kian Dollins opened the inning with back-to-back singles and advanced on junior Colson Moore’s sacrifice bunt. Junior Mason Danner got on base when he was hit by pitch.
Senior Seth Barton singled in Scoma. Dollins scored when freshman Ryne Marcum drew a bases-loaded walk. Danner scored on a passed ball, with Barton scoring on a wild pitch. Marcum scored when junior Brendan Blackburn grounded into a fielder’...
