EXCELSIOR SPRINGS – A 22-game losing streak is over for the Tigers in varsity boys basketball. The skid ended Feb. 3, when the Tigers visited North Platte High School and beat the Panthers 63-45. It was the program’s first win since Jan. 31, 2020, when Excelsior Springs edged Wellington-Napoleon 70-67. A 12-0 opening run spurred Excelsior Springs to victory. Senior Tanner Phillips led the charge by draining two threepointers. The Tigers never looked back, leading 25-14 after one quarter and outscoring the Panthers 9-2 the second quarter to lead 34-16 at halftime. The Panthers threatened to take control by starting the second half with a 10-2 run, but the Tigers answered by finishing the quarter with a 14-6 run to end the third quarter leading 51-32. Both teams scored 13 fourth-quarter points. The Tigers had three players score in double digits. Phillips and senior Jalen Soria led the team with 14 points each, followed by sophomore Brendan Blackburn with 11. Other contributors…
