ES boys golfers look to contend for MRVC West title

EXCELSIOR SPRINGS – The Tigers have a few expectations of themselves this varsity golf season, coach David Stalder said. “We feel as if we should have some successes and compete for (our) conference title,” he said. Senior Ethan Edwards, a Class 3 state qualifier and all-district and allconference selection in 2021, will lead the Tigers in their quests. Other contributors will include sophomore Jacob Schmidt, a returning letter-winner; seniors Tristan Pekarek and Collin Borchert; and junior Ryan Glum. Newcomer Eli Smith, a senior, also has potential to contribute at the varsity level, according to Stalder. “We have a tough district, so getting to the state championship tournament will be a tall task for some of them, but we expect Edwards to play well enough to go back there,” he said. The Tigers must focus on playing well from inside 50 yards of the green and be consistent with their chipping and putting – also known as the short game – to find success this spring, Stalder said…
