ES boys grapplers have high hopes for season

Excelsior Springs coach Cody Beck and his Tigers have high expectations for this varsity boys wrestling season. Beck returns all but one grappler from last season’s lineup. That lineup includes four state qualifiers, two of whom were medalists – Cooper Collins and Micah Danner. Collins, a sophomore, was the Class 2 113-pound state champion last season. Danner, a senior, took fourth at state at 126. “I want to see our team win a district title and take home a state trophy – and after reaching the third-place match last year, I want to see myself in the finals match this year,” Danner said. Juniors Ryne Marcum and Hunter Scoma complete the quartet of qualifiers. Marcum, who qualified last season at 132, seeks his third trip to the state tournament. “I have spent my first two years thinking about long-term goals, instead of going in one match at a time, and I think that has stopped me from reaching where I want to be,” Marcum said. “This year, I am going to focus on just one match…
