ES boys grapplers rout Ray South in regular-season finale

It’s time for the Excelsior Springs High School boys wrestling program to focus on the postseason. The Tigers have concluded their regular-season schedule. They finished that portion of the season Feb. 1 at Raytown South, where they pummeled the Cardinals 65-15. Nine matches were wrestled that night. Excelsior Springs won seven of them. Bumping up to 138 pounds, sophomore Ryne Marcum started the dual with a second-period pin of Julius Vajda. Gaige Carr, a first-year high schooler, followed that with a 17-0 technical fall victory over Aidan Bellamy at 144. The Cardinals picked up their first win when Anthony Benard pinned senior Francisco Sanchez in the first period. Sophomore Hunter Scoma answered for Excelsior Springs by pinning Jorge Gayton at 157. In other results, Excelsior Springs sophomore Anthony Circo pinned Marcus Simpson at 165.
