When the Tigers stepped outside the Greater Kansas City Suburban Conference-Blue Division last week in varsity boys basketball, they won. When they played inside their division, they didn’t. Excelsior Springs went 1-2 for the week. After falling 75-28 Jan. 31 on the road to divisional opponent Winnetonka, the Tigers edged non-divisional foe North Platte 62-53 Feb. 1, also on the road, and then fell 100-60 Feb. 3 to visiting Ruskin in Blue Division play. Winnetonka dominated Excelsior Springs from the outset, starting with a 10-0 run. The Griffins led 22-5 after one quarter and 49-17 at halftime. The Tigers held the Griffins to 26 second-half points but scored only 11 themselves. Senior Damari Wesley led the Tigers with nine points.
